　　In the past, there have been many endangered animals. Now they are extinct. Does it matter? Has our environment been affected by their absence? Has the quality of our own life been changed? The answer to these questions is "Yes." It does matter if we destroy an endangered species habitat to develop more farmland, housing or industrial parks. There is a delicate balance of nature.

　　If one small part is removed, it will affect all the other parts. For example, if certain trees are cut down, bats will have no place to roost. If they cannot roost, they cannot breed. If there are no bats, there will be no animal, or bird to eat certain insects that plague our crops.Our environment has been affected by the absence of certain animals. Certain flowers are pollinated by butterflies which migrate from Canada to Mexico. Some of the breeding grounds of these butterflies were destroyed.

Now we have to visit them in one small park. Rainforests around the world are being cut down to make room for humans. 　　We live in Beijing, and the environment in Beijing is directly related to our existence!

　　But Beijing's environment is very bad now, such as: poor air quality, less plants, sewage, garbage dump more problems etc. These people are not enough to bring a devastating disaster, such as: dust storms, floods, ground subsidence, etc.

　　Here I call on you: to protect the environment in Beijing is to protect the homes we live in. I would like to propose several initiatives:

　　If there is no urgent business, it is better not to drive a motor vehicle, walk or ride a bicycle! This protects the air quality.

　　Take part in tree-planting activities and cut down trees. That will give Beijing a green color.

　　When we discharge the sewage, we should not enter into the river, we'd better get in the drain. This will solve the problem of more sewage.

　　The garbage is dumped in the designated dump, allowing the designated personnel to handle it. This way, the garbage can not be polluted to the environment.

　　Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility. Maybe we can't change the bad environment in Beijing all at once, but we can start from the next bit!

　　Because of the differences in environmental policies， resources and technology， international cooperation could provide quicker results and have a greater impact on bringing resolution to environmental problems for nations of differing environmental policies and of lesser resources and technology. By pooling international resources and technology to address the environmental problems， the disadvantaged nations are provided the assistance needed. Otherwise their environmental conditions deteriorate ultimately affecting the resources and environment of the world as a whole.

　　One of the difficulities to an international resolution to environmental issues is the difference in individual nations view and policies toward environmental protection. In order for international cooperation to occur and succeed， the nations of the world must submit themselved to international standards and supervision by an international mission elected by the participating nations of the world. All members must agree to abide by the standards established.

　　The environmental issues facing each country are not unrelated to the well being of the rest of the world. The impact is long term and international in scope. Without international cooperation and agreement to address such environmental issues as glacial melting at the South Pole， depletion of the ozone layer， water pollution， air polution， etc.， the environmental conditions of the world will deteriorate to the detriment of every nation， not just those that ignore or lack the resources and technology to resolve their individual environmental problems.

　　As part of the same planet， it is the responsibility of each individual and nation to protect the global environment. Only international cooperation will provide the timely solutions and the effectiveness needed to stop the deteriorating global environment.
