　　"We should invite her," said our monitor. At first, we were nervous—would she think we were being polite? But when we knocked on her door with an invitation card, her face lit up like a Christmas tree.

　　On the night of the party, Mrs. Hu arrived wearing a red scarf, carrying a box of old sheet music. "I thought these might be useful," she said. She helped us adjust the microphones and gave tips to the students performing, saying, "Project your voice like youre speaking to the back row."

　　When it was time for the singing competition, Mrs. Hu surprised us by joining in, her voice still clear and strong. Afterward, she told stories about past New Years parties: the time a bat flew into the auditorium, and how they turned it into a funny skit; the year a snowstorm kept everyone late, and they ended up having a sleepover.

　　As the party ended, Mrs. Hu hugged us and said, "This is the best gift you could have given me." Walking home, I thought about how sometimes the people who used to make celebrations special need to be reminded that theyre still loved. This New Years party wasnt just about looking forward—it was about honoring the past, too.
