Western festivals gain ever—increasing popularity in China。 A growing number of people in China are immersed in the thrilling atmosphere of the upcoming Christmas。 In comparison with the Spring Festival， the equally high status is given to Christmas by some of them。
There are a variety of factors contributing to this craze （trend）。 First， younger age groups are exposed to western culture and lifestyles through learning English。 And festivals are regarded as the highlight of western culture。 For example， Valentine's Day provides a vehicle for young adults to show their love。 Second， the advancement of economy enables Chinese people to possess increased purchasing power。 They are heavily targeted by businessmen， who view foreign festivals as golden opportunities to make money。 So they desperately try to boost the atmosphere of foreign festivals。
The necessity of celebrating these foreign festivals is widely questioned。 People involved are to blame for their loose traditional values。 Our home—grown festivals play crucial roles in Chinese traditional culture。 However， their foreign counterparts are exerting strong influence on people's values and thoughts。 There is no doubt that we should give our priority to Chinese traditional festivals。

With rapid spreading of western cultures, there is a growing number of Chinese people prefer western holidays to traditional ones. When Christmas or Valentine Day comes, youngsters flood into bars, restaurants, or department stores to celebrate these festivals, while they know little about Chinese traditional festivals.
The reason behind such kind social phenomenon is obvious: in a society dominated by mass media and consumerism, festivals and holidays from abroad are labeled as fashionable, new and unique, while traditional ones are something out of date and old. Young people all over the world have regarded western life style especially the life depicted in Hollywood films as their ultimate goal of life. As a consequence it is no wonder that Chinese young people have much more passion on Christmas than China’s Spring Festival.
We should think about the influence of such a social phenomenon carefully. As far as I am concerned, it is obvious that the wide spread and recognition of western holidays is definitely doing harm to our traditional value. If we don’t take some measures right now, some day in future, Chinese cultural heritage may be alien to our offspring. It is high time for the government and all people to take some action to protect our traditional culture.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we will try to come home for the celebration. The moon that night looks the brightest in the whole lunar month. What we love most is the time we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat moon cakes and fruit, sharing our stories.
