　　the modern pace of life is just too fast. everyday as you open your eyes in the morning, you have to move fast or you wont get things done on time. you have no time to enjoy breakfast; you have to run in order to catch a bus; you have to shout and yell to get other people moved; you have to be nervous all day long. since what time we human become such miserable creatures? its because of money, which can buy almost every thing in the world.with such a powerful stimulus, we people act like drug addicts and become oblivious to the true meaning of life.

　　前两天，学校高年级举行了英语演讲比赛，我作为班上的代表之一，前去观摩。

　　这次比赛无论是主持还是演讲，都是全英文的。东看看，西看看，竟来了不少我认识的人。学校的几位老师来做评委，还有一位外教呢！

　　比赛开始。首先，是两位主持人一番简短的介绍，然后选手开始挨个儿上台。每个人都有一份课件，上面是演讲内容，选手要流畅地背出稿子，才能得高分。他们一口流利的`英语，听得我云里雾里。我不由得感叹道，这就是差距啊！不过根据课件上的英文，我还是认出了一些单词。

　　选手的情况也不同：有的一口英语说得头头是道，听得人一愣一愣的；有的上了台过于紧张，忘了词，又下来整理整理思绪再上台；也有的背得不错，却出了一点小插曲的……可谓是千姿百态。

　　选手们讲的内容各不相同：有的流畅地讲了那些经典的故事；有的介绍了自己喜欢的动物或东西；还有的讲了自己从一句话或者一件事中感悟的道理……内容各不相同。

　　通过这次比赛，我深切地体会到了：人外有人，天外有天。我要更加努力地学习英语哟！

　　Mother would then tell me the story of the moon fairy Chang-o, who lived in a palace on the moon, with a jade rabbit for companion. I always imagined that I was the moon fairy whenever I heard the story. When I grew older, however, I was compelled to leave home for education in the city. And now I am living alone away from home. The August moon only serves to remind me of the lost happy days I had with my family in the country.
