夜莺与玫瑰

年轻学生She said that she would dance with me if I bought her Red rose

cried The young students

年轻学生But in all my garden there is no red rose

From her nest in the holm-oak tree the Nightinggale heard him, And she looked out through the leaves and wondered.

年轻学生No red rose in all my garden

he cried,And his beautiful eyes filled with tears

年轻学生Ah,On what little things does happiness depend,I have read all that the wise men have written,And all the secrets of philosophy are mine,Yet for want of a great rose is my life made wretched

夜莺Here at last is a true lover

夜莺Night after night have I sung of him,Though I knew him not:Night after night have I told his story to the stars,And now I see him.His hair is dark as the hyacinth- blossom,And his lips are red as the rose of his desire,But passion has made his face like pale ivory,And sorrow has set her seal upon his brow.

橡树上的夜莺在巢中听见了，从叶丛中向外望，心中诧异。

“我的院子中并没有红玫瑰”青年学生的秀眼里满含泪珠。“哎，难道幸福就寄托在这种小东西上面吗？古圣贤书我已读完，哲学的玄奥我已领悟，然而就因为缺少一朵红玫瑰，生活就如此让我难堪吗？”

“这才是真正的有情人，”夜莺叹道“以前我虽然不曾与他交流，但我却夜夜为他歌唱，夜夜将他的一切故事告诉星辰，如今我见着他了，他的头发黑如风信子花，嘴唇犹如他想要的玫瑰一样艳红，但是感情的折磨是他的脸色苍白如象牙，忧伤的痕迹也已悄悄爬上他的眉梢。”

青年学生又低声自语“王子在明天的晚宴上会跳舞，我的爱人也会去那里，我若为她采得红玫瑰，将有机会把她抱在怀里。她的头在我的肩上枕着，她的手在我的掌心握着，但花园里没有红玫瑰，我只能寂寞的望着他，看着他从我身边擦身而过，他不理睬我，我的心将要粉碎了”
