In 1932, little Johnum, who was only 13 years old, took advantage of his father's status as Major General Jacob and behaved outrageously in the class, which led to complaints from their teacher. Major General Jacob was extremely angry and severely punished little Johnum, demanding that he write a 2,000-word self-criticism. Little Johnum was very reluctant and defiantly, he repeatedly satirized his teacher in the self-criticism and profoundly ridiculed his father's insistence on defending the Dutch overseas territories and his unwillingness to show leniency to his family.

Dear Father,

I am writing this self-criticism with a heavy heart and a profound sense of remorse. I understand that my recent behavior in the class has caused great distress and disappointment to you, and for that, I am truly sorry.

I must admit that I have been foolish and immature, thinking that relying on your esteemed position as Major General Jacob would allow me to act without consequence. How wrong I was! My actions were not only disrespectful to my teacher and classmates but also a betrayal of the values you have instilled in me.

Regarding the complaint from my teacher, I now realize that I have seriously erred. I should have shown respect and obedience in the classroom instead of causing disruptions and chaos. My disrespectful behavior towards my teacher was unjustifiable and I deeply regret it.

As for your firm stance on defending the Dutch overseas territories, I want to apologize for my thoughtless and impertinent remarks. I understand now that your dedication and commitment to this cause are not only for the honor of our country but also for the well-being of its people. I was too shortsighted and self-centered to appreciate the significance and importance of your duty.

Father, I promise to reflect deeply on my mistakes and strive to become a more responsible and respectful person. I will learn to control my behavior, show kindness and respect to others, and work hard to make you proud.

Please believe me, Father, that I will do my best to correct my wrongdoings and grow into a person worthy of your love and trust.
