Cold as Ice was released on August 23, 2017.[1] With 72M views as of April 2022, it is the most-viewed episode in the series, Cold as Ice has been said to directly further the popularity of Blacklite District after the video went viral on YouTube.[2][3]

Synopsis

Cured of being a zombie after The Struggle, our last surviving hero faces a greater fate after he is given a second chance in life. As the Ender Dragon besieges the frozen bastion, it triggers war between the Endermen and the humans.

Plot

Shortly after the events of The Struggle, Ser Patrick and Daryll the Bandit arrive near the icy ravine on horseback, engaging in a brief battle to wipe out the remaining Undead. Ser Patrick finds Rain's zombified body, which had fallen into the ravine, and feeds him a Potion of Weakness, temporarily paralyzing him.

Ser Patrick and Daryll mount their horses and return to the Dreadfort, carrying Rain with them. Upon their arrival, they take him to Azura, who uses her machine and a golden apple to cure Rain, who awakens with a glowing red eye.

After training tirelessly with the Frostbourne, he is given a special Ice Armorset, giving him the ability to wield ice powers in combat. Soon after, the Ender Watchers begin their attack on the Dreadfort.

Endermen teleport to the fortress in great numbers, beginning a vicious assault in conjunction with the Ender Dragon, who mercilessly burns down people and buildings. Rain kills an Enderman whilst protecting Azura and gets an Ender Pearl. When he notices the Dragon escaping through a portal, he follows, throwing the Pearl which teleports him through to the End. With Vordus, Ceris, and Zeganirn watching, he faces down the Dragon and uses the Eye of Ender on the back of his armor to tame it, forming an alliance with the Ender Watchers. After returning to the Overworld riding on the Dragon's back, the Endermen cease their attack on the Frostbourne.

Back at Glacierford, Herobrine notices Rain and the Dragon fly over, foreshadowing an attack.

The episode takes place at roughly the same time frame as Begin Again chronologically.

This marks the debut of the Frostbourne and Ender Watcher factions (including members), as well as the right hand of the Undead, Blackbone.

This episode ties with Cold as Ice: The Remake for the debut of the most female characters, with Hilda and the Unnamed Captain for the Season 2 finale and Ceris and Lady Azura for this episode.

This episode has the most views out of the episodes, having 70 million views on YouTube.

Along with this, this episode has 20 million as more views as the second most viewed episode: The Struggle.

Most of this popularity was gained from PopularMMOS' reaction video to it.

It has been stated that motion capture was used in the production of the video.

According to Rainimator, Cold as Ice was temporarily demonetized by YouTube's system for including the word 'war' in the description until he filed a countercomplaint.[4]
