The boy jumped up out of his seat. He ran over to a window and peered outside. As soon as he did this, the wind whipped around the train and he was knocked off balance. He fell right backwards and tumbled off of the moving train as it passed by. It continued past where he landed without stopping or slowing down.
It continued until the train finally reached the end of the tunnel. The train came to a sudden halt. The man sat up.
He took the journal off his lap and checked it for damage. After making sure nothing important had fallen out of it during his tumble
he put it away into his bag and got up. He walked to the front of the carriages, where there was a compartment that led out of the train. It lead straight out into the countryside. They were surrounded by fields of corn, wheat, soybeans and other vegetables.
A small road branched off from where they stood, running alongside a river. The train was parked directly across the street from the bridge they had come across on their trip. The river ran underneath the tracks. On the other side of the river was a small cluster of shops. It was an unremarkable enough area
especially compared to where the two travelers had originally gotten on the train. They had arrived at the small rural village of Haddam Junction, New Hampshire. Haddam Junction was located between a series of rivers that flowed past farms, mills, factories and farmland. Its main road snaked through the farmlands before cutting into the town proper.
